Swiss Army Knife of Video Players
Every now and then you run across a video file that just won’t play in Quicktime. There are many video players available for OSX. There is one video player that you should keep around, just in case you run into a video file that misbehaves. VLC (Video Lan Client) is a free video player that will play almost any video format. You can also view streaming video and damaged video files.
If you want to use VLC instead of Quicktime you must select “open with” with a right click on the file.
